My Training

I interned at the Episcopal Center for Children in DC, and the Jewish Social Service Agency in Rockville.

I have worked at:

  • The National Children’s Medical Center in Washington DC
  • The Jewish Family and Children’s Service in Baltimore
  • The Psychiatric Institute of Montgomery County in Rockville
  • The Universities at Shady Grove Counselling Department
  • Outpatient psychotherapy practices

I have consistently had training in various approaches and techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness and Mind Body Techniques.

I have trained as a Yoga Teacher and used various breathing techniques, visualization and meditation in my practice. My training has been in many different areas so I also work with children and adults and couples.

My Approach In Working with Teenagers

I relate well with teens because I recognize that I must be authentic and real in the moment since teens are experts at sensing when you are not genuine.

I feel a great sense of empathy for teenagers because they have so many struggles in their lives.

I believe teenagers may act like they don’t want to come for therapy, but when they begin to become aware that there is pain in their lives they can start the process to work on themselves.

One thing I know for certain: being nonjudgmental is the way to make that connection to your teen.

 My Approach with Parents

I understand the parent’s perspective as there are very real concerns and fears regarding their teenagers.

I know parents want the best for their kids, and they need guidance and support which is not always available to them.

I know that parents are also dealing with many other issues in their life which complicate their connection to their teenager.

 The Process of Therapy

The process of therapy starts with an evaluation of your teenager and you. I meet together with your teenager and with you to take information.

I then meet with your teen alone and explain confidentiality and access their motivation and what they need for their treatment.

Therapy usually begins with weekly sessions with your teenager and occasional meetings or phone calls with parents.

Therapy is a process that sometimes you don’t see real change and but then there are times you begin to see gradual growth and change. Like most processes it takes commitment and time.
